The only downside to the 1301T, is that it has maybe a little more noticable recoil than the M4 or the Versamax. The Versamax weighs in a 7.5 lbs, the M4 at 8.5 lbs and the 1301T at 6.5 lbs. The 1301T is the fastest 1st shot on target shotgun I've used. Initially the Versamax was faster for follow up shots, weight matters. That said, since I've started using the push/pull method as taught by Matt Haught the difference in shot to shot time is negligible. Overall, my choice is the 1301T, it's light, it's fast and it's reliable.
Just my experience The M4 and the 1301T are both great shotguns, I suspect you would be happy with either of them. The Versamax is a little iffy. It took a while for my Versamax to break in and I still don't completely trust it with low recoil buck (1150 fps) but with heavier buck loads it runs like a champ. The 1301T, so far, has worked with everything I've fed it and has had 0 malfunctions, I can't say that about any of the other semi auto shotguns I've run.
