Jim Griffith, CEO(and owner IIRC) of OnCue used to have “No Beretta” signs at all his stations. Our company policy was don’t ask don’t tell and your good to go IF YOU HAD YOUR CCW it was a very large family owned company(rhymes with Rocks..). Back in early 2002 the bossman noticed all the signs and called a meeting with all of us in the field and said “No more fuel at Jacks until signs go down, period.” So 20 trucks stop doing business there. A month later boss calls another meeting “ Jack is wondering why we all stopped getting fuel at his stations and has offered free drinks if we start using his stores again; don’t.” So time goes on we have no longer been using them for fuel, it didn’t come out of our pockets wherever we fueled up and a free fountain drink on a 110* day no thanks prefer a Gatorade. Well I drew the short straw and had to go work on his house, call and setup a time and swing by. I get him fixed up, his pup chewed the line so replaced it and let him know I wasn’t going to bill him for a puppy chew. We get to talking and he asks why we stopped using his stations. I didn’t lie and said well your signs pissed off the boss, we don’t get to just work for people like you, we have the meth heads, tax return ghetto rich and people that have there kids shoot us with BB guns while we hang off telephone polls to shut them off so we have our reasons for CCW. He said the “the no gun signs”, yessir that’s the ones. Well hell it’s just a sign to make people feel good with all the crap, you tell (boss’ name) to forget about the signs we don’t care if y’all carry, I bet your carrying right now and you should. I didn’t answer his question in disguise with a yes or no, he couldn’t see it so no reason to point it out. I said well boss said signs up we drive to next station… I finish up, heck if I remember he gave me $100 bill for a tip, by the way super nice dude and wife is very sweet as well even before the tip lol 2 weeks go by and meeting time, “ Ok so point got across and screw the signs he’s cutting us a deal on fuel cost so fill up and get your free drink, just don’t shoot anyone inside his stores” So moral of the story is owner was just covering his arse, had no issue with “Berettas” but the wack jobs in his corp did so he had to please them by putting them up. I’m going to Stillwater today and I’ll let you know but I am about 100% his stores no longer have the signs up…
