Casting question

Do you empty your pot after pouring bullets or do you leave the lead in it to solidify for next use?

I dump it out into ingot moulds. I put on welding gloves, pick the pot up, pour it out.

I may want different alloy in there next time. This way it's ready to load whatever I want.

I leave it in. Only reason I’d empty it is if I were going to cast pure lead for BP.

I leave at least some in the bottom of the pot. I do so because the manual I read when I started said to. The manual didn’t explain why, and I have no idea.

I think it's sort of like it being really difficult to melt snow in a pot on the stove, but if you add that snow to a little water that's already in the pot, it seems to melt much faster.

Four pots. All full. Wish I was better about marking which alloy was in which though. Always think “I wouldn’t forget that”. But I do.

I leave it in. I used to empty them but they seem to rust quicker and if left very long the dirt daubbers start building in them.
