I dont disagree with you in regards to the broadest swath of Americans. There are those out there that just want to see that they can have impact on things. It is like a really large scale HOA to them. They want to say everyone's grass must be 0.125" shorter this year than it was last year and then sit on their porch watching everyone run outside with their lawnmower. Our lives have gotten so easy we have to manifest struggles. Humans require obstacles to overcome and when all of the real obstacles (hunger, thirst, lack of shelter, lack of security, ability to provide for our kids, affording means of transportation, affording doctors visits without rewriting the budget for the rest of the year or go broke) have all but disappeared from our lives, we will make some up so we can feel like we are triumphing over something. I think this explains some of the more absurd "movements" we have had over the past couple of decades. Grow up in an upper middle class suburb where everyone leaves their doors unlocked and never hear a siren unless you go to the city? No one asking you what your preferred pronoun is is pretty much like the civil rights movements of the 60s. Its ridiculous and we try to make sure our kids see it for what it is. Sometimes it is hard to find that balance on teaching them to be compassionate while recognizing false struggles.
