When I get in my vehicle and need directions, I put them in google maps and never pick up my phone until arriving at the destination. I feed it to the stereo via Bluetooth. Listen to the blues and get directions. The "need" for instant gratification is ridiculous. Before Waze, did you hold a map in front of you all the way to your destination? Your passenger did, or you pulled over to see where you needed to turn. I don't text on the road, nor touch my phone. If I need to see a pothole, I make sure I'm far enough behind the vehicle in front to do a visual observation before hitting it. Waze just gives a general location. Don't speed if your don't want a ticket. If grandpa died, there is not one thing I can do about it by reading/typing texts while driving in traffic. I'll need to stop and get gas at some time, or my passenger can read the text. I'm betting there is a large part of the population that can't read a map, nor has even seen one. I'm a technology lover keeping up with the latest, but also a person that says some of the technology has a place and time to be used. Driving is not one of them. Too many innocent people die because of it. If the texter was the only person hurt/killed/paralyzed, I'd say go for it, but its the innocent that end up paying the price for the instant gratification of others.
