Look at this way, they will not prosecute for theft under $750 nor for criminal trespass. So someone could go into a convenience store, sit down and drink a 6 pack before the cops show up. Get escorted off the property then come back the next day, and the next day, etc etc. And that is just one person. What are these small businesses to do? They can't trespass these people anymore, they know they won't recoup that money, and any insurance will dry up quick. Pretty soon you are going to have people beating the crap out these thieves in an effort to deter them from coming back. They won't have any choice! That or just close their business.

Distinguishing between misdemeanor theft and felony theft is one thing, but when you say you're just not going to prosecute the vast majority of thefts, that's something entirely different. Oklahoma does nothing remotely similar, as far as I'm aware.

What our lawmakers have done in their collective “wisdom” is made some laws more lenient and complicated. Once a person on the street is caught, then the officers may have to get the book out and look it up for the correct charge, make a decision to keep or release with citation (which we know they won’t appear for) and hope they didn’t release one they should have kept.

It’s turned into a big mess because the judicial system is overloaded, jails are full, liberals think they can be rehabilitated and the “it’s just property, they didn’t hurt anyone, it can be replaced” attitude. Okay, it’s just property and it can be replaced, but WHO is going to pay for it? Obviously not the thief who was just caught and released with a “promise to appear”. WHO?

Things like this is why the crime rate is rising. The criminals know they can do what they want and no one will do anything about it. Its an open invitation to steal. It’s going to get worse.

I heard it from other sources(radio) not just Patriot Post. Sure as the heck won't hear about it on leftist/socialist SJW MSM.

read the letter spanky, what theft isn’t going to be for “economic benefit”
It’s just a typical politician bs spin on something that won’t ever happen.

What the hell does that even mean? Personal items? Economic gain? WTF?
I guess if I'm mugged and the criminal steals my phone because he really needs it to connect with his bros, that's not economic gain maybe?:drunk5:

I can agree that low income people can get trapped in the system, can't make bail, which costs them their job, then they lose their house, etc.
But just letting them get away with it isn't the answer for Pete's sake!
They ain't got no job. They ain't got not house payments, they on welfare.

Consumption probably won't be considered economic benefit. Economic benefit, IMO, is more stealing to sell or trade.

I would love to see citizens in that county stop paying traffic fines less than $750, prisoners with bail set at $500 just walk out of the courtroom and steal the D.A.'s subway sandwich out of the fridge in the breakroom on the way.
