I just bought a new S&W 638 with the lock.
What is it about the lock people don't like?
This is the second firearm the other was
a Bersa Thunder .380, that had the lock.
Thanks in advance for your reply

The lock on a S&W can be easily removed if it bothers you. The only one I have with the IL is my 617 .22 which is only a target shooter, so the lock on that gun doesn't bother me a bit. I suspect the whole lock controversy is a bit overblown, but that is just a suspicion, as I have no evidence one way or the other.
