Very cool and informative! Took three days to rough out a barrel, and a couple more to finish one.

Everything done by hand and a file.

I went to a school back in the late 80's in Springfield Vermont. Home of Jones & Lampson Machine tools. They had a lathe used during the revolutionary war in the field to finish artillery shells in their museum.

Not all bores of cannons were exactly the same, so the gun crews had folks that used blanks to finish out the outside diameter using this lathe.

It was powered by the machinist feet. Very similar to the original Singer Sewing machines, operating from a treadle.

I collect and restore antique machine tools, so this series of video's was really interesting.
