I didn't want to hijack the 'why all the hate' but I wanted to know why Kimber has a bad rep. I've only heard a bit of bad about the Solo. But are Kimbers generally not good? If so its sad as they may have the largest catalog of 1911 pistol offerings.

My Solo works just fine, they just take a lot of breaking in.

They tried the external extractor and had to redesign it three times..... then went back to internal because they couldn't make it work. S&W and Sig now have no problems with the EE.

The Solo was a disaster.

There's no need for the Series II safety.

There little difference, if any between a $700 Kimber or a $1500 Kimber in terms of parts or fitting. As someone said the "Custom Shop" is a marketing gimmick.

All that being said, Kimber can make good guns.... they just choose the Sig Sauer method of marketing where they sell you the same gun with different lipstick.
