I write personal checks at the feed store, the dry cleaners and for the farrier. A book of checks last me a very long time. For the home building business, everyone gets paid with a check except the guy that hauls dirt & sand. He wants cash. As long as he gives me an invoice it don’t matter much. He’s also known to wait 4-5 months to bring an invoice. That drives me a little nutz, but he’s a good dude so we deal with it. When I do consulting/inspection work, everyone wants an invoice and they all write me checks. I live in a small town and bank where I live so it’s not a big deal. I know folks that carry no cash, and I can’t do that. What if ya wanted to buy a taco or a hot dog from a street vendor? Or a watermelon or tomato from a roadside stand? I’ve always got a couple hundred in cash in my pocket. I can’t stand being cash broke.
