Our society and the view of accountability to a higher power has changed markedly between the Watergate era and today. Without such accountability, those in power have little or no restraint beyond the limits of their political power. Likewise, the general public has lessened expectations for their leaders to respect laws as long as they believe there is no negative impact on them personally. The poster boy for this corruption of character is likely disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok (Strock) with his expressively contemptuous face while he was being questioned. He no doubt looks forward to being reinstated in some way, shape, or form. Perhaps he has been already. I hope not. I hope for a return to higher standards, but it depends on the morality of the average citizen. Corruption has always been woven through Washington but they had to keep it more hidden, more under restraint.
