It is a tough deal to look at. Its not all cupcakes and juice for any search warrant. As far as I am concerned the PCSD did what they knew to be the best options. It looks like they knew him to be armed (hence the siren and the knock and warning) He had plenty of time to be peaceful, he chose the other route. Yes there will be fallout. I do think the SD did the best they could. This could be armchaired all day long, but until all that facts are out there is no point.

Well couple the fact that the poor guy probably thought he was responding to a home invasion with the fact that the SWAT team shouldn't have been used to go after him in the first place and this falls pretty heavy on the SD. The man had family that was killed in a home invasion, it's no wonder he answered the door with a gun, and if the SD thought he was so dangerous, and knew he would be armed why did they go after him at his house where he obviously keeps his guns. He had a set schedule at a steady job, why not pick him up when he's going to work or coming home why force a pontetially deadly confrontation? Arresting the guy away from his home, while less dramatic, would have been safer for the LEO's and him.

okie-gunslinger hit the nail on the head. Why risk the deadly confrontation? Why not grab him away from home? Why show up with enough force to bring down an army for 1 guy?

Because law enforcement learned in the 1930's that trying to apprehend people with effective weapons was dangerous and decided to bring more force than the bad guys can bring.

This is a basic lesson that gets repeated over and over because people ask the stupid question:

"Why'd you need so many people?"

Please read the other thread on this topic so we can avoid answering the same questions over and over.

We spent 100s of billions of dollars hunting Bin Laden. It took 1 (well trained)team with the right information to get him. Good example?

Your missing the point. If the suspect is in a house and there is no way to get them out or know when they are going to be away from their weapons then yes a SWAT team is a totally acceptable way to handle the situation esp when you know that the suspect is armed. I accept the fact that SWAT teams have their uses and they do indeed prevent LEO deaths and injuries.

But when you know that the suspect adheres to a fixed schedule and spends a substantial amount of time away from his home and weapons then why not aprehend him then? Why on earth would you wait till he's at his home?
