Never heard of any otters around Stillwater but they may be moving this way. I did have a badger under me for 10 minutes last week near Stillwater.

Badger was my first thought but they're coloring is a lot different than beavers.

If it came out of the water looking like a beaver, then it might be a muskrat.

Woodchuck, or maybe a ground hog, wait maybe a marmot!

Woodchuck! They live mostly in the ground but they sometimes climb trees also.

I had one just like that walk up my road and get in a tree. I called the GW as I had never seen anything like this before....He came out and identified it.

Marmots are Rock Chucks and are found only at higher elevations (starting around 5000-6000') Same family as a Wood Chuck, but they chuck rocks!....and the altitude thing, and the need of ...well....rocks.

Yeah, we used to see lots of marmots in the colorado mountains.
