So I have posted before about my Magnum Research Lite .22 Mag., and anyone who has seen the post knows how much I like it. But I have wondered how it would stand up to the Ruger Precision, I have heard good things about them for some time now. Well, I picked up a slightly used one complete with a Vortex 4 X 12 variable scope, bipod, 15 rd. mags and a tanker muzzle brake for a .30 cal. (?!?) This package without mag weighs it at 9 lbs. My M.R. Lite is wearing an older Vortex 6 X 24 variable ( I don't have my 6.5 Creedmoor AR10 any more, so I had to put it on something.) It also sports a bipod and tips the scale at 7.2 lbs, with the scope and bipod making up about half of that. I went to my local indoor range after work and tried several kinds of ammo in a side by side comparison of the two. Targets were shot at 25 yds. from a resting (somewhat) position. Six shot groups were fired out of both with each type of ammo, 1 shot for clearing, the other 5 for group. With most groups you can see the clearing shot. The groups fired with the Ruger are marked RP, and the Magnum Research with MR. The crosses mark the aiming points. It's not the most scientific, but it did provide a lot of information, at least for me.

While I did enjoy it a little, (mostly because the Magnum Research did so well) I would really like to get these out on a 100 yd. bench rest just to see what they are really capable of. This bout just had too much human involved. I found the Ruger more comfortable to shoot due to the stock design, but the MR was less fatiguing due to the weight. Triggers were good on both, but the Ruger would get the nod there. What was very convenient was the fact that both use the same magazine.
