I did some swapping and got my boy a rifle. He is just 2 and a half so it'll still be a year or two before he gets to shoot it but I figured they arn't getting any cheaper. It is a Rossi single shot .22 ought to make a fine first rifle. I swapped my escort aimgaurd for it and a worn mossy 500ag. I think I came out pretty good.

Good choice on a single shot. My son's grandpa gave him a 10/22 which is a terrible choice for a first rifle. He just pumps the trigger and doesn't care about the accuracy. He is getting interested in shooting more though and really likes my CZ. I'm looking at Appleseed info now so he can get back to the basics and learn it correctly.

I have a friend who bought one of his boys a single-shot,,,
He told me, "He got bored shooting and loading just one shot."

So my buddy sold the H&R and bought the kid a Ruger 10-22.

The kid isn't bored any more,,,
Neither can he hit a soda can at 25 yards,,,
He can run through a 100 round pack of mini-mags in record time.

The son should have been made to stick with the single-shot,,,
Until one of two things happened.

1) He got bored with shooting and quit.
2) He got past the slow rate of fire and learned to hit something.

His son really doesn't need a rifle,,,

The real beauty of a single shot is you'll only get shot in the rump once if the kids screws up. :pms2:

Some people want to start thier kid off on the latest and greatest, others go old school.
I reckin' it's a parents choice.
I started my kids and G'kids off on single shots.
My thinking was get them to focus on accuracy.

Right now the G'kids have all started with a Henry Minibolt single shot bolt action.
It's a right of passage around my house.
It gets the heck shot out of it and then ends up back in the safe until the next G'kid is ready.

My Gpa made me start with a single shot. I believe I am a better marksman today because of it!! Hitting 1 good shot always feels better than dumping a ton of rounds and getting a couple "lucky" shots.
