Something similar happened to me except my mother was the one to let me know. I got into a fight with a friend at my sister's house (when I was 17), cops were called and as far as my sister knew nobody filed a report. 7 years later my mother notices there's a warrant in the paper with my name. Turns out that somehow they filed charges (without my sister knowing) and never issued a summons or tried to contact me at any point about the incident. I ended up getting the charges dropped after talking to a lawyer and him knowing the judge (yay small county politics). Still irks me that it even came up since I'm not exactly trying to hide. I attended high school for 8 months after the fight, lived in the same house for almost a year until I went to college, and I even had a speeding ticket since then. You would figure someone would have tried to contact me or something show up when the Hi-Po ran a check on my license. My guess was that they were getting concerned about money so they decided to pull through all their old records that they failed to follow through with the first time.
