Police in standoff with suspect in seven murders

A man suspected of killing seven people including two children in Michigan on Thursday later invaded a house after a police chase and was holding one person hostage, authorities said.

The bodies of seven apparent shooting victims were earlier found at two different locations in Grand Rapids, setting off a manhunt for suspected gunman Rodrick Dantzler with police helicopters, state police and sheriff's deputies.

The gunman later invaded a house in northeast Grand Rapids and apparently took two hostages before releasing one of them.

"He has released one of the hostages that he was holding, there is a 53 year-old woman who lived at the house who has been released," Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk said.

Police had set up a perimeter and were negotiating with the suspect.

Grand Rapids police spokesman Sergeant Jon Wu said the hostages were believed to be strangers to Dantzler, and Michigan State Police said they had provided a helicopter and were assisting Grand Rapids police.

Thats doesen't end well no matter what happens seven dead and shot at police! If he surenders we feed him and give him medical care for the next 20 years, if doesent there may be 9 dead!

GRAND RAPIDS -- A nearly 9-hour manhunt and standoff ended tonight when a gunman who police said was a suspect in the shooting deaths of seven people, including two kids, shot himself in the head. His hostages are safe.

The gunman led police in a chase through the city and took three people hostage in a home for hours.

Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk said he was disappointed in the outcome of the standoff with 34-year-old Rodrick Shonte Dantzler, who earlier released one hostage - a 53-year-old woman - but still held two others, until he shot himself.

See liberal media, guns can be used for good. This guys just saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars. I've been watching this story all day. Glad to see it end this way. I was pretty sure he'd end up shot or dead. I'm just grateful an officer didn't have to do it. Still it feel a lil out of control. There's little anyone could have done to prevent this.

seems like the entire series of events was premeditated.

he was trying to shoot a 3rd former girl friend as she was try to escape in her car.
chase by cops followed shortly, leading to him shooting himself.

EDIT: Let me preface my original post with the obvious thing we would need to figure out is how to make no one commit any crimes of any sort, however as we all know that's not possible.

We need to figure out how as a society to make suicide after committing crimes that get you life in prison or death by needle anyway the cool thing to do. Would save everyone tons of money and over time open up space in jails.
