Review: Savage .223

Good information. I've been debating .223 versus .243 for a deer rifle for my son. He is a lefty, so my only option for a compact is the Savage Axis.

I know a deputy that is left eye dominate and right handed. she never shot rifles and I had her shooting my .308 which is right handed.
Off the hood of a truck (welcome to Oklahoma).
Anyway she could not get the sight picture on the rifle... i let her have at it at different angles and she finally shut her left eye and shot better than her husband.

She stated it was easy once she closed her left eye.
Remember going from a zebo 33 to a spinning reel.. you felt out of wack until you got used to it.

But since you are buying a fresh weapon might as well make it easy on him.

Now you got me looking for a savage axis in .223 for the wife.. as she thinks the .243 kicks too much.
I assume you got the axis.. the reviews on them look good and at $279 does not seem bad.

What's the overall length and lop on it? Is it well balanced? I've got one in 243 win that's not a youth model and it shoots lights out with hand loads

Update: Since the weather has cooled, we've been shooting this rifle some. I can't say enough good things about it. My 10-year old is now very comfortable with it, and he can poke holes in a 1" orange dot at 50 yards all day long with it. It's not only a fine shooting rifle, it's a down-right fun one. I do plan to upgrade the scope at some point.
