Can't say much about Axis Rifles but the Mainline Savage Rifles [Model 12 Varmint and Desert Tactical 110] that I own and shoot have been great rifles and I have more confidence in them than any other rifle I own and shoot. Since I've started reloading I run ALL ammo thru a case gauge before using it because I had a box of Federal American Eagle in 224 Valkyrie that would not chamber properly. Same Rifle with Federal Premium Ammo chambered flawlessly. That experience taught me that even the factory can screw up the sizing of the cartridge. I read this story and can't help but think about possible operator error. How hard did he force the bolt in attempting to lock it? If the bolt does not close easily and smoothly it is time to carefully move bolt to the open position and investigate. If the cartridge was not forced into the chamber it should have been easily extracted from the chamber without force or inertia to cause firing pin movement. Too many unanswered questions here to make an accurate assessment of this story.
