Currently I hunt from a blind just a few hundred yards from that spot actually. I figure those cats range a far distance anyhow.

Speaking of cats while mule deer hunting in co. one year I found about a 1/2 acre green spot underneath a 20' bluff that was only about 10' wide that stuck out from a ridge there was deer crap all over that green spot,i looked at it and look at the top of the bluff and said ya this is it,it was about 2pm climb up on top of bluff for a evening sit.after sitting not 10 mins I though man this would be perfect for a cat to sit here and get itself a deer about 1 hr before dark there was 6 does feeding there they had no clue I was around it was awesome,as I sat there dreaming that one those 30" wide, bases big around as my wrist was going to come walking up.i heard what was in my mind a cat trying to sneak up on me you could hear something very faint walking towards me then it would stop for a few seconds then here it would come again,i wasn't afraid for my life because I had a 270 in my hands, but I was afraid I was going to have to kill a mountain lion out of season,i didn't want to get up and yell or anything didn't want to scare te deer.it got closer and closer and stop not 10' from me as hard I tried I couldn't see it because of the waist high thick buck brush, finally I guess it winded me and hauled ass I never seen it but heard it run off,so I turned back around to see if does still there. they were along with 2 small 4x4,set there until it got dark and snuck out,the next morning I killed a 24" wide very heavy 4x5 mulie there, bottom line cats are deer hunters also and they know where the good spots are at also

The scariest hunt I've had was actually this year. My family recently purchased land on the eastern side of Eufaula in Muskogee county. Anyway, during the first week of bow season, I had a neighboring property owner approach me carrying a rifle wanting to know what I'm doing on "His" property when he had actually crossed on to ours. That's the first time, I've ever had anything like that happen as I take great care to always know my boundaries when I'm hunting public or private land. I've since showed him the data from the most recent land survey that was conducted in 2009 and his and his wife's response was that the survey was wrong, they were right, and that while they would allow us to occasionally hunt that part of the property, they would be continuing to do so as well...

this year I made a big mistake when putting my boat in at cobb. I unhooked everything backed in on a sandy boat ramp.i got out and before I got to the boat it floated out alittle. it was 10ft from me and the water was up to my chest. i drove to the cabin as fast as I could got a fishing pole with a treble hook and weight by the time I got back it was 30 foot away I hooked it and the line broke. I thought **** iam going to have to swim for it. I then thought the neighbors light was on when I went by. I drove to his house mind u it was 4am . he was up and I asked him if he would help. he took me out in his boat and we got it back. I felt so stupid, everything was In the boat my gun, decoys, everything floating away. I always unhook my boat and never had a problem. I now have a long rope attached.

I was hunting alone a few years ago and had been out in western OK hunting coyotes. On my way home I stopped at a pasture I have hunted several times before. It is the bull pasture for a big ranch and I made sure all the bulls were up near the highway and I drove to the other end of the quarter and went in along the fence. I howled a little and then started the distress call. All of a sudden I heard something coming and looked over and all the bulls were coming to the call. I have been around cattle all my life and have never been in a spot where I was spooked but these bulls were clearly agitated. They spotted me and circled, blowing snot and pawing the ground. I really thought someone was going to find me dead. One charged and I yelled at it and it backed off a little and started pawing and blowing again. It came at me again and I shot over its head with the .17 Rem. I had no large caliber gun with me. It was enough and they backed off a little and let me walk away. I drive past that pasture often and they still keep their bulls there and I still stay out of there. I try to remember to carry a large caliber handgun if I don't have the shotgun with me too.

HAHA! I was at Lone Chimmney several years ago when they had the single boat ramp, attending a bass tourney.

I did the same thing, launching the boat, after taking the hook off. It was 5am, and went down to the tighty whiteys to swim out to the boat. The slight wind kept blowing it further out, so I kept swimming, Finally caught it. When swimming it back in, the other fishermen showed up, and I caught hell.

Like you, I keep a secondary rope on it now.

I drew into a Wichita Mtns elk hunt in 1988. Last morning of the hunt I had to wait till there was enough light to not walk into a tree or bolder. Started up a trail I'd found the day before when a very large black rock, less than 10 yards away, suddenly came to life as what turned out to be a buffalo. Luckily I scared it almost as much as it scared me. The Buff ran off in another direction as I just froze in place for about 5 minutes. Took me that long to quit shaking.

Was on a spring turkey hunt. I was first to be dropped off to go to the blind, about 150 yrds from the road. About halfway to the blind, I get this 'feeling'. Stop and start looking around. The sun is just starting to peak over the horizon. I stand there for 15 minutes looking all around me. I finally get enough light to see this 7' rattler absorbing the morning sun under a mesquite about 3 feet from me. My scoped rifle is USELESS at that range. I grab the Colt ACE on my belt and empty a 10 round mag. Drop the mag and empty another 10 rounds. I hear the Jeep tearing up the round as my buddies are coming to see what WW111 is about. Almost an hour before my hands were steady enough to hold .22LR rounds and reload those mags. We had a good laugh.

Went on a deer hunt with my neighbor on his lease. Got up that morning and it was so foggy visibility was 10 -15 feet. He drops me off and points at the trail, saying the stand was 150yrd (seeing a pattern here) up the trail. I walk what seemed like half a mile down this foggy trail when I finally see a ladder. Slowly climbing up, I reach the floor of the stand and just as I look into the stand; a ()*(&*(&* SCREECH OWL is roosting in the stand and screeches. I don't know how I managed to stay on that ladder or not empty all internals, but as soon as it got light, I was searching the trees for a 'soon to be DEAD' owl. We later had a good laugh.

The really scariest moment came at the hands of an asshat in Colo. I was sitting under a tree, wearing ORANGE and glassing a valley. I catch a glimmer across the valley and look intently at the area. I finally see this asshat laying behind a log and looking at me THROUGH HIS RIFLE SCOPE!. I slowly lower my binocs and pick up my rifle. I point in his direction. He doesn't move. I lower the rifle and make exaggerated motions to turn the power up on my scope and look at him again. He still doesn't move. I raise my thumb and flick off the safety. He jumps and runs. I was shaking and PISSED. 3 days later, we are in town, season is over and we stop at a café for lunch on our way home. Asshat is sitting at the counter telling about how some fool is about to shoot him. We listen for a few minutes and determine it is indeed asshat. My buddy walks over and asks a few questions about the deleted details, such as his hiding behind a log and scoping me. The asshat blushes and then gets belligerent. A Sheriff was sitting in a back booth and intervenes before it gets REALLY serious. Escorts asshat to squad car and asks if I would like to press charges. ABSO****INGLUTELY. Hope he is still in custody and this was 30 years ago. We still talk about it and get pissed.

This past spring, I took 2 of my grandsons (13 and 10) fishing, our first trip in the boat I had just purchased. The wind got up and the anchor wasn't holding. We ended up on the rocks and the motor was in the mud. I finally had to get out of the boat and push it out enough to get the motor off the bottom. The oldest started the motor and it was in gear. They took off across the lake, both looking back at me standing in the water. I holler head to the boat ramp and they finally start turning that way. I walked the half mile to the ramp and see them at the boat dock. We get the boat on the trailer and start home. We get home and neither has said a word the entire way. Grandma asks how it went and the youngest says, "WE HAD A MAJOR ADVENTURE".

My bear hunt. Walking down an overgrown trail at 4:30 am with 2 or 3 unwelcoming bears within a few feet of you, popping their teeth and woofing at you is a very uncomfortable feeling.

I used to hunt some private land that backed up to a WMA. One morning during muzzleloading season (pitch dark) I'm sitting under a big oak, next to a creek. There's a beaver dam-type crossing close to me, only place to cross the creek for quite a ways.
I see flashlight coming on and off, getting closer, from across a half mile wide field on the WMA. I keep hoping this guy turns, but every time his light comes on, he's closer, headed right for me. He ends up 10 yrds to my right, shining his light down into the creek, obviously looking for a place to cross.
I just stay put, silent. He gets within a few feet, and in a loud voice I say "whatcha lookin' for?". Poor guy. He had no idea there was another soul for miles.
