I submitted a question to our sheriff and he had his Lieutenant call me about it. I told him about the situation out here with the neighbors calling for me shooting and mentioned the last deputy and what he said about the 220 feet from a dwelling and how he could arrest me for breaking that “state law”. The LT. said he looked and could not find a single statute prohibiting me or anyone else from shooting in the country. He said he had never even heard of something like that and don’t know why the deputy told me that. This guy was very nice. He came out yesterday afternoon to look at my property and my backstop. He told me I am perfectly fine shooting here. He said I am actually doing it much safer than most do. We talked about guns and stuff and then he gave me his card and said if i need anything to give him a call. He took a picture of my backstop before he left so he could show that he checked my setup to make sure I was being safe. He said if they get called again to just tell the deputies to call him and that he gave me permission to shoot. Then I said “ I hope it ain’t the last deputy” and he said, “ he resigned “. Makes me wonder if the guy got canned. Either way it don’t hurt my feeling any. He also told me they get calls like this all the time and have for years and they always tell the people there ain’t anything they can do unless the person is being unsafe. I am glad I submitted that question.
