I want to buy a spotting scope, but don't want to break the bank.I have
a old one that I used for black powder, it's 20x40 power but just does
not cut it at 100 yd's or so.

What power would you think I would need at 100 yards & what price should
I expect to pay?:uhh:

20x should be more than enough to see plenty at 100yds. Chances are, you're spotter isn't clear enough - clarity more than makes up for magnification in most cases.

Depending on what you consider breaking the bank, there's a good one made by Burris - its crystal clear and very compact (and only $138 - I actually own this model).

I can read words on road-signs a mile away with mine.

laid out the extra $$$$ to get a Bausch & Lomb Elite 20-60 x 80 with the 22x optional eye piece.

clearest long optic I've used used... have never regretted.

Ok while it is no where near some of the others listed if your really looking for a good price. Look at academy with the added bonus of being able to look through one before buying they have a decent Game Winner branded 15-45X60 for $60. I bought one yesterday as a cheapo one that I can throw around and not worry about.

I agree with EZ Bake... I have a 36 power and I can see .22 holes from 125 yards+. Of course, it helps that I have pretty good vision.

Mine is a Redhead, and I think I paid a little over $100 for it.
