I am outright dismissive of all "guns make you less safe" arguments that only take private criminals into account. After all, the antis are not arguing for doing away with ALL guns (or at least I've never heard anyone seriously make that argument) -- they are arguing for taking away PRIVATELY OWNED guns, and leaving the government armed. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that the law would be obeyed (I know its a stretch), this would only disarm the least worrisome criminals, and would leave arms in the hands of those who historically commit all the worst crimes. Until somebody wants to try to refute this research: http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/20TH.HTM I am not moved by such arguments.

This is the PRECISELY purpose of the 2nd Amendment.

One thing to watch on anti-gun academic rants is that they LIE, and quote each other's bogus made-up "facts" endlessly. I tell them that quoting a lie 3 times does not make it a fact, no matter whose lie it is. (cf Mein Kampf Adolph Hitler, the great socialist)

What exactly is the context that Adolph Hitler talks about the Big Lie? I hear this repeated a lot, can you clarify?

The title of the piece, "Why I Don't Want Guns in my Classroom," is a good example of the level of denial of reality we are dealing with. No matter how much you "want" something, reality is not dictated by your wants. The question is, if someone "wants" to bring a gun to your classroom, what is to stop him? And if he does so, what is to stop him from harming others? For the vast majority of colleges, it would be extremely impractical and undesirable to provide security with metal detector searches for every person who enters the campus. I suppose having an armed guard in every classroom would be one solution. Of course this would also be highly impractical from a budget standpoint, and would of course involve having guns in the author's classroom, which is what he is trying to avoid... but it seems most antis' hoplophobia is abated by the gun-wielder possessing the proper costume, badge, hat, arm band, jackboots, or other insignia of a highly trained and professional government employee. :rolleyes2

Of course until these unlikely measures are actually put into place, there is literally nothing stopping anyone from carrying a gun into just about any college or university across this nation... and people like the author are frantically trying to prevent the one and only thing which could actually provide for the immediate protection of all the students and staff of these institutions -- simply respecting their right to live, and the concomitant right to possess the means to defend their life.

Right on point in every aspect and I especially liked the bolded part. I'm always struck by the obvious logic disconnect in the rantings of the hoplophobe crowd.

However, there are some in the anti-gun crowd that don't want ANYBODY to have guns: military, police, etc. I wonder if the weather is nice in their fantasy world.

I deal with this daily,,,
I work at a University.

I have professors who won't enter my office,,,
Because I have on display a wooden rubber band pistol,,,
And a Nerf revolver that were given to me as gifts by my friends.

Bliss-Ninnies, every danged one of them!

Our school mascot sports a Ruger Blackhawk,,,
One of our professors objected to him attending an official event in our building.

Again I say, Bliss-Ninnies!

One of my professors told me I couldn't bring my GTM Briefcase into his classroom,,,
One of the other students told him my briefcase had a built-in holster,,,
So he tried to ban me from carrying my briefcase,,,
He told the Dean, "I don't feel safe".

Actually, that worked out well for me,,,
It pretty much guaranteed that I got an A in that class,,,
It's amazing what the threat of a discrimination lawsuit can accomplish.

They do live in a fantasy world of their own creation,,,
What cracks me up is when a reasonable professor challenges their views,,,
A large number of my schools faculty have their carry permits and do carry on campus.

I like being employed so I don't do that,,,
I guess that they think their tenure will shield them.
