I'm not totally excusing it, but Apple does not own the manufacturing. They contract it to Pegatron, Foxconn, and others.

And if you think Apple is the only one (or only industry) using manufacturers with conditions like this, think again. Trust me, I have industry experience. I won't name names (I like my job and all), but I do.

I've heard some radio stories lately about living conditions in India, these folks could be a lot worse off.

When I saw the first pic of the bunks my first thought was "looks like a submarine".

My college dorm didn't have private showers.

It's all relative; this may be really good compared to where they came from.

Isn't that the truth. At least they had dividers in the crappers vs just an open room of crappers.
We had open showers like that in junior high and high school gym class.

This is the way most of the tech industry works...nothing special about Apple in this context.

Man that's terrible... those people would have been much better off as subsistence farmers or whatever tf they did before those Western exploiters showed up and offered them factory jobs.

It may seem strange to Americans but we've got a house in the Philippines built in 2006 as a place to retire.
I've never spent a night in it. my bro-inlaw rents it out to Hanjin shipbuilders.
4 bedroom 3 bath = 3 sets of bunk beds per room = 3x4x2=24 people.
and who knows he may even rent it "per shift". All I know is we don't have to send them support money like we used to.
