Last I read, they have been held back by the size of the battery banks needed to create enough energy. Until they could shrink the battery bank size down it was just too big to actually put on a ship. You can imagine how much room all those batteries take if they were much too big for American naval vessels.

I'm guessing they got the battery issue handled if they are finally mounting one shipboard. They are crazy amazing weapons that fire a non explosive projectile that travels so fast and hits so hard it causes damage that, until now, has been only capable with huge explosive bombs and warheads.

Just think... Scaled down nuclear reactor.

The 16" "naval rifles" on the Iowa-class battleships were MOA rifles at 20+ miles. I'd imagine that these would do better with modern targeting and fire control systems; IIRC, the Abrams is a heck of a shot on the move...

+/- 1/3 mile at 20 miles ain't bad.
