What's the deal with egg prices ?

Deciding that we wanted breakfast for supper last night and were getting low on eggs and a few other things we went to Walmart yesterday afternoon and eggs were $7.27 per dozen.......these weren't fancy organic or free range eggs, just plain ol' eggs.

What's going on with the price of eggs ?

I was in Costco in Tulsa last week. They usually have several pallets of eggs. There were zero eggs of any kind in the cold section.

Try Natural Grocers. A couple weeks back they had a dozen free range for $1.99. Had to be a member but my wife had the checkout person give her the discount anyways.

$2.33 for a half dozen of the generic store brand at Walmart the other day.
$9.xx/dozen for generic store brand 18ct at a small local grocery store.

It's crazy. Gonna have to start eating something cheap for breakfast like ribeye.

My theory includes chicken farmers selling out or going to marijuana grow farms.

if you had watched certain news you would have found out that someone is destroying chicken farms across the United States. They have also destroyed processing plants for beef and pork. it finally caught up to supply.

Energy prices to climate control large scale egg operations (pastured eggs have not risen as much)

Cost to make facilities California SEF compliant (also does not effect pastured)

"Bird flu" resulted in the government requiring millions of chickens to be culled.

Sams has them at 6.00 for 18. We got chickens a while ago. Never buy another egg again and they're fun as heck to watch.
