I can vouch for the "just show up" and someone will outfit you comments. GC and I went to a 3-gun several years ago. Just to see what the deal was. We didn't take any gear because we didn't plan on shooting. Just wanted to spectate. Before I knew what was happening I had more guns and gear than any woman could ever ask for thrown at her! Seriously ... those guys were GREAT! I shot every single stage! Made a complete fool of myself (Remember, I'd not been shooting a pistol for a year yet. I bet I hadn't fired a shotgun a handful of times and I'd not fired a rifle but maybe once or twice.) but I had at BLAST! You will not find a more helpful bunch of people than the folks at a shooting match. Any kind of shooting match. IDPA, USPSA, 3-Gun, Steel Challenge, Appleseed, I don't care what kind of shoot it is. I've NEVER been to any kind of shooting competition that the folks haven't been wonderful ... (And yes, I know Appleseed Shoots aren't competitions but they deserve a mention here because those guys will offer you the guns off their backs too ...)
