Reid had also attached the illegal immigrant DREAM act to the bill hoping some Republicans would vote for the military spending bill even with the 2 attachments. Then the Dems could have defended the unpopular DREAM and "Don't ask, Don't tell" parts by saying Republicans voted for them too.

Nope they were ready to filibuster if needed but it was not needed. Even some Dems refused to vote for these turkey. McCain had already promised to filibuster if needed.

I guess they will have to stick to filibustering unemployment benefits instead, so they won't have to vote Yea or Nea right before elections.
