Could you have been using Albanian ammo? Several years ago there was a lot of the Albanian stuff show up. Lets just say that many people had problems with it due to out of spec cases--yes, that is kinda an oxymoron since there is not A LOT of tight specs on a Mosin.

Take a look at that and try some different ammo.

Russians used steel cased, lacquer coated ammo in them and the majority of the surplus 7.62X54R ammo is steel cased lacquer coated. The chamber gets gummed up from it. Give the chamber a good cleaning http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=yXC_PQkLkNA.

You're nuts. The lacquer/polymer that is used to coat steel cases is impossible to get off with even a blow torch. What is proven to happen is steel cases failing to obturate enough to seal the chamber. The result is a dirty chamber.

Lacquer coated ammo causing sticky bolts is well known and has been discussed for years. And people do remove it prior to shooting it but it is a time consuming, boring process to do so. The old lacquer coated Russian .223 really gucks up AR15s. Do a search and you'll see.

As for being "nuts" I can't argue with that statement, as the VA verified that years ago.

You can have the chamber reamed out, that cleans it up and makes it the right size thus avoiding the hard to remove bolt/case.
It can be done at home but the tools to do it are expensive.

He's not necessarily nuts. There have been many instances where lacquer build-up has resulted in sticky bolts. A good cleaning with solvent will resolve that situation.

However, it is very likely that the problem and solution lies here .

Except its not lacquer. Thats a common misconception. Its fouling caused by steel cased ammunition not obturating enough to seal the chamber.

Well, XD-9Guy, take your pick. Try them all until you find one that works. Frankly, I'd clean the chamber first since it's by far the easiest.
