OK, as we all breath a sigh of collective relief (so far).

Let us assume that the sky isn’t going to fall (unless you live in New York).

What have we learned from this.

I’ve seen many, many posts from folks saying “yeah, I always meant to stock up on X, but never got around to it.”

So, let us assume that things get back to December First. Walmart’s ammo case is full. Their gun case if full. Sportsman’s Guide has full inventory and a Free Shipping Coupon. Academy has a sale. You know.

For me, one of the most interesting parts of this entire exercise has been the “transformation” of the spousal unit. She would give me “good hearted” ribbings about buying “a bunch” of ammo. “When have you ever run out before?” “When have you ever had to worry about not being able to get more?”, “You probably have enough. Don’t you?” Now, as we drive around town she sweetly asks “Did you want to go by Walmart and check on your bullets?”

What will you definitely start purchasing if and when reasonable prices and stock levels return?

I for one thought what I had was a good stock, but when you can't replace it, it makes the time farther between shooting sessions. I'll definitely pickup a lot more .223 and 22LR. I'm fairly good on 9mm.

I'm taking this opportunity to slowly build my 30-30 inventory, because my Walmart always has a few boxes of core-lokt in stock. Two boxes a week, slow and steady.

Purchase enough rifles to ensure my children get the chance to own them. Buy ammo in increments or when there is a good deal and/or purchase a progressive reloader. Acquire enough mags to supply the weapons purchased.

I too have noticed the wifey transformation. Where she may have pitched a fit before, she seems on board with more guns and ammo now.

Ive learned we have a lot of people who are prone to panic buying. Reminds me of the stupid people who buy into the "tickle me elmo"", cabbage patch, beanie baby, christmas buyers stampeders.

I cant wait for the deals on barely used guns in a year or 2. Suckers.

I can't wait for ammo to hit the market at fair value. My wife is more on board with stocking up after she saw the shelf at Academy and Walmart. Once the rush dies I'll pick up a box or two when I get a chance.

Other than that I am good on everything else. I agree with lurker for the most part. Anyone that was into shooting during the 08 fiasco and has not been buying a little at a time since should be kicked in the nether region.

We are adults for the most part. How many times do we have to go thru this before we learn our lesson?

That the price of metal (this includes lead, copper, steel (in the form of a firearm), gold, silver, etc...) never will go down significantly again in my lifetime...

I shoulda spent every penny I had in 1999 on gold. I KNEW it was too cheap and would NEVER be that low again.

The worldwide population is on an explosion course and with India, China becoming more industrialized every day, the price of commodities will only continue to track upwards.
