I'll use a dealer but I really try hard to only use one because I know he would probably go out in a blaze of glory before turning over his book for the wrong reason.

Would you mind naming this dealer. I have been thinking of changing and this guy sounds like someone I would want to do buisiness with.

Meh...most of my guns were bought in CA(paperwork and a 10 day wait). I don't care about paperwork, as long as the price is good(because the wait is basically the same).

Although I’ve done my fair share of horse trading, I really prefer to buy “new” from a dealer. I know the gun’s full history that way.

It's not a big deal to me. I'd prefer to buy from an individual, but I don't see paperwork sweeps and confiscation being the route if the US decides to go bigger brother on us than they already are. I imagine the new rule will be a national registration, where every gun owned legally must be registered with Uncle Sam. I imagine it will be a 'bring it in and register it' scenario, not one where they track people down via the FFLs. Once everything legal is registered, shooting someone in self defense with an unregistered gun would most likely be a crime and the good guy would go to jail for not doing the paperwork. That is probably the logical step toward a national ban, IMO.

Basically, I don't mind buying from a dealer because the registration/bannination process won't start there.

Either or, doesnt bother me one way or the other. Whatever Reddog says above all makes sense to me. Its just the time it takes to go thru it all that gets me. I dont think I have ever spent more than 20 minutes at Redds place, about the same amout of time as a FTF in a WalMart parking lot buying one 'off the books'. But try getting in and out of someplace like Academy in 20 minutes, aint happening. At shows though it does go a little quicker with a dealer.
