Saltwater will remove cosmoline. Add more salt and let it soak for a few days. Keep it covered too. Then wipe it down with a good coat of vinegar. That will remove the rust. After using the vinegar you will need to nuetralize the vinegar with a caustic solution. Or just bury it in sand for a week. When you dig it up, it will be cosmoline free, just add scope and youll have a 1, 000 yard rifle.

Trust me, it works.

If you mix the vinegar with household bleach in a 50/50 ratio you can substantially reduce the soak time and wont need to neutralize afterward.
