The reason I posted this was because I have heard stories about people being bitten by the chopped off heads of rattle snakes at places like the Okeene Rattlesnake Hunt(has anyone else heard this?). I don't think that I remember of any of those people dying though(very lucky for them). I guess in this case thought, the cobra wasn't good for the chef's health.
