We have been on an antenna for years and using RedBox to rent movies that interest us. Thinking of trying one of the internet streaming sites and wondering what the OSA community has to say about the various services available.

First problem I might have is my internet speed, I am on Atlas wireless and my tests are showing about 700 KBS. Netflix says minimum speed is 500 KBS for standard dif videos. Willing to accept some buffering but not real sure what to expect. Youtube videos seem to play OK but not sure if that is any indication that streaming movies will work OK.

What say you ASA?

I've got att dsl, which is pretty lame. I don't remember the speed I measured but it was borderline for what netflix requires. It works like a champ and I go for days with no buffering at all. I would drive on with what you have. You can always pull the plug if it doesn't work out for you.

Just do the free trial. Netflix isnt bad, but Amazon Video has add subscriptions so you can get Starz, Showtime etc for like $8/mo. I actually have Amazon, Netflix and Hulu. Cut the cord a year ago and never looked back.

I looked at Amazon prime while seeing if anyone would reply. I kinda like what I discovered but my blu ray player doesn't support it. It has Netflex, Vudu and a couple others I never heard of but sadly not Amazon. I managed to get it talking to the internet through my wireless router, guess the next step is to get signed up for the free Netflix trial and see what happens.

Thanks

We cut the cord 4 or 5 years ago and use a Leaf indoor antenna for OTA broadcasts. For streaming, we've done both Netflix and Amazon and prefer the content and the user interface of Netflix. We are on Pioneer wired Internet and a few times a week seem to hit a bottleneck where video content rebuffers. I'd definitely recommend using the free trials already mentioned and see how performance works for you and how you like each service. One other thing that seems to be improving is asking TV. It's an online app that delivers streaming versions of ESPN, TBS, TNT, HGTV, and a number of others. It's $20/month and may fill a void for sports or other programming. I tried it last year during March madness and it froze too much for my liking. When OU played in college football playoffs last month I did a 7 day trial and performance in just that short period seemed better.

We have Netflix for the past year since cutting cable. My wife was interested in Amazon so we checked it out for a few days and I didn't really care for the selection so we are sticking to Netflix.

I have had Netflix for probably5 years and recently added Hulu. I think I like Hulu a little better than Netflix. Get the free trials started on one then try the other. Can't say if it would work with your connection speed. Being able to get discs from neflix is pretty awesome. If you can afford it get both.

Think this is going to work out better than I thought. Signed up for the Netflix free trial and also gave Atlas a call to see what I could do about getting a faster connection. They can give me twice the speed for the same amount I'm paying just by signing up for a two year contract. Not planning on changing ISP's so went for it.

In the mean time got the blu ray player set up on Netflix and have been watching the WWII in Color series. Quality isn't great but good enough and so far no buffering delays. Once Atlas gets my equipment updated I think we will be good to go. Netflix is possible with a pretty slow connection at least for the TV quality videos, not sure what will happen when we try a movie.

Wife has a Kindle and been looking for an excuse to sigh up for Amazon Prime other than her Kindle. When I replace the blu ray player I'll make sure the new one has Amazon support and give it a try.
