Where did you come up with this? How can you be so sure that you are gonna own this bad guy even if you successfully get the gun pointed away from you head for the initial shot? WTF do you do next? How did you get in this predicament in the first place? Yes, I think it likely the gun will malfunction...maybe not, depends on how much force/twist you can put on it. Who craps pants first?

Surprise, speed and violence of action. Train for it.

That cartoon was the first thing that came to mind, but you have a valid question. I've watched some training video's, and they do say to grip the slide like you described. It likely won't come back into battery, and then your ground fighting skills poking eyes, kicking nuts, stomping feet, or whatever it takes to get the upper hand. At that point its not a schoolyard brawl. Its a fight for your life. That gun can't ever get back into battery or your dead.
