Are pistols normally carried like that in the small of the back? I would think it'd be easier for the grip to be pointing the other way for a right-handed draw?

Can you not reach your back? With grip facing other way, you would have to slide hand between gun and body to grip in close to a proper grip then adjust the grip.

Yes, I tried both ways, and the posture when reaching with the back of the hand against the small of the back seems more natural than twisting the palm to face inward. The shoulder has to be rotated more the latter way.

But I did wonder about having to insert the fingers between the pistol and one's back. That's why I asked.

Everybody is different. Its good to see what works for others. I think if I had her bent over in front of me, I would have to try to conceal my gun differently.
