I am partially color blind and cannot track blood for anything. A couple of years ago I purchased some of the bluestar mentioned above but did not get a chance to use it until this year. I shot at a nice buck opening day of black powder and he bucked like I hit him but then after searching for an hour I could not find a trace of anything. I waited until night and went back to the location. Two different colored pills to 4oz of water. I doubled the recipe and never found a blood trail. I then went to where we hang deer when we gut them and sprayed there to see if the bluestar actually works. That stuff lit up the ground very nicely where blood had been. I don't think I sprayed enough when I was looking for a trail. So I can say it does work, to me it's better to have a patient person with you in the day. But if you need to track down an animal and you are alone, I can see the bluestar helping but you might go through quite a bit of it.

Well I'm brown , green & red color blind . I can't see blood on the leaves & grass at all . So I have always depended on someone else to track a deer for me ,when needed . My wife helps me when she is in town or a couple of buddies will if I call . I was just wondering if any one else has this problem ? .

Same issue here. Have tried "blood" lights and flagging is only good if you can see the blood. Have had great luck with bringing wife in on the track. Have finally settled on rifle only, given up the 30-30 and gone to 300 win or 7mm mag to insure I don't have to stumble through the woods blindly!

I have never thought about being color blind and blood before reading this. So brings to question, could you legally use a dog to sniff out a hit deer? Some kind of medical waiver/approval to do so, with color blindness?

I really have never thought about this, that would be a bad deal on tracking, hang in there and hope you just knock em down!

My wife has tracked the last three deer for me to which I'm very thankful .

I have always been told all my life that you can use a coleman lantern at night to make the blood glow, how true this is I'm not sure never had to try it someone else may be able to pipe in on it.

No offense guys but women have better color vision than men. Mine is good, I was a car color specialist years ago for one of my dads auto paint companies as well as an artist the last 25 years. My dad sent me to Sherwin Williams car color school and more than half of the class was women and I remember being told that women see the color spectrum way better than men. Might wanna take the wife along on some of your hunts.

I have the same degree of color blindness. I didn't know about it until fairly recently. Seeing blood is very very difficult for me. I am fortunate that I've only had to track a handful of deer but the ones I have, I've needed help. For years, I just thought I was bad at looking or lazy.

Me too. I have some degree of red/green colorblindness. I didnt know it until I was in 8th grade science class and the teacher was holding up cards that test colorblindness. All the other kids in the class could read them and I could not. I had the same test during a physical for employment when I was about 22 yrs old and same result. They said I was red/green colorblind.

I have a lot of trouble blood trailing deer. My wife and daughter help me out a lot. They both deer hunt and are very good at trailing deer.

I once shot a deer during Muzz season and it ran trough a bunch of short green grass. I was literally on my hands and knees for an hour and went probably 30 yards. My wife and father-in-law showed up and were able to walk along at a normal pace following the blood right to my deer in a matter of minutes. So frustrating!!
