I think an AR-15 would be a viable option to hunt deer or hogs with, mainly hogs, but only if you have nothing better to hunt with. Shot placement and bullet type are crucial. I'll say it again, there's no point in hunting with a .223 if you've got any larger caliber sitting in the safe.

.05 MOA? Wow, that's like half an inch at 1000 yards!!! Congrats!!!

I was wondering when someone was going to catch that - .05 MOA is a very clean hole at 500yds (not ragged).

I've got some Winchester Ballistic Silvertip in 55gr that will absolutely jack an Oklahoma-sized white-tail's world up if I can get the right shot off (I'd have to have the "right shot" before I'd take it no matter the caliber personally).

I like the 55gr because they don't change my POI by much at all at 100yds over my plinking ammo.

They work very for deer, even using the .223. I shoot the Rem 55gr softpoint.

Proof is in the pics. Postmortum inspection showed a large hole through both lungs. The deer ran about 30 yds before piling up.
