I have a older Redhawk Hunter model. It has the scope ring grooves. I have rings, but unsure about how to mount a RedDot??? I have a two or three extra RedDot's on hand. Couple of Burris's TR-25's and a couple others. Wonder how I can put one of the Burris TR-25 on it? Will it withstand the 44??
It should. You have to order a rail from ruger or maybe brownells designed for the Redhawk.

I've got a Burris 1.5 X 4 on my 6.8 SPC. I hunt from a portable rest/tripod.

A scope on a handgun shot offhand will show you how much you are wobbling. You can't see it as much with iron sights. You will shoot better offhand with a scope because you will learn how to reduce the wobble.

I have an older pistol scope that has a removeable lense. It is 1.3 power without the lense and 2.5 power with it. I have it on a Contender. A variable pistol scope would be good too. There are some 2-6 power scopes that would be great.

The burris mentioned in the post above this one would be great.

I am on the line on which way to go, red dot or variable 2-6 power scope??????????? I have rings already, and found what Dennishoddy mounted a optic with on Brownells. I have the pistol, I have the Rings, I have Red Dots! LOL!! But no scope or Red Dot Mount. Decisions, decisions............

So my last question, if a guy was going to use it mostly for hogs and just target shooting, but maybe a time or two for deer to just say he was able take a deer with a handgun "as I have not" would you all opt for Red Dot or Variable Scope??

Handgun scopes have small fields of view. They are harder to get on target than a riflescope. You have to hold most of them at arms lenght and you are looking through a tiny tunnel.

With A 1x or 2x pistol scope it may be possible to keep both eyes open which is better. For a longer shot you would like a higher power scope and would be better with a rest of any kind. That is why a lower power variable can be good with a pistol.

Use the lower power for guicker shots on the pigs and the higher power for longer shots on deer or pigs. A scope will make your handgun seem like a new one. It will make your handgun into another kind of weapon.

A red dot could be good on a handgun but I have no experience with that setup. I would vote for the variable for hunting. It would depend on the ranges you might shoot at.

I am sure that a scope will make your .44 capable of 100 yard shots with some practice. It may make you want a smoother, lighter trigger.
