Lead safety is pretty simple, but not totally "common sense is all I need."

Before you even melt the first ingot, secure for yourself a solid understanding of the hazards and how to manage the associated risks. CB

Where'd you find a tireshop willing to sell you wheelweights?... I'm having trouble.

The little mom and pop shop usually are pretty east to deal with.
The bigger chains not always so much.
Plus you might check with some of the local salvage yards.
A lot of times they have some as well.

Just check and make sure your not buying a bucket of steel and zinc ww's.
Starting to see lots of those.

Just keep your temps below the melting point of zinc and they float up and get skimmed off with the rest of the trash.
But, yeah you sure don't want to buy a bucket full of them.

what's fair market value for a 5 gallon bucket of WW's? If they're all lead (no zinc or steel) how many pounds (on average) would it yield? I know that last one is somewhat subjective based on how full the bucket is etc.. and the first question is probably somewhat subjective too, but I don't want to get ripped off :)

It would yield about 375lbs once you remove the metal clips. I wouldn't pay more than $0.35 x lb.

Ok... I was pricing it on Ebay and its running about a buck a lb for processed plus shipping.

My offer still stands btw... I'll sweeten it with another nickel a lb for raw WW's (.40 per pound)... I'm not looking for 2 or 3 tons of the stuff either, just want enough to get started into casting... anyone wanna help me out? :)
