Carbine for the backpack is a really limited market. I like a Savage 99 takedown but they do not have external magazines. Do you know anyone with one you can borrow to shoot? Only true way to know what you will like. I have shot the PCC, it was not ergonomically friendly to me. I have held a sub2000 and it “felt” ok but I was never able to shoot one. I have shot several take down that we’re limited capacity and liked them but own only the 99 which I adore.
I have a Glock 19 gen 4 and a Ruger carbine 9mm that came with an adapter for the Glock mags, Very simple to install the adapter!
I’m not predicating purchases on what the gov may or may not do.

Agreed. If the .gov/ATF says it's legal when I bought it, then it's always legal as far as I'm concerned. That's not intended to be advice for anyone else.
