You can take a singleshot new England 45/70 and put a savage breech plug in and have a smokeless muzzle loader a bunch cheaper then that
What is it about the ignition source? Also, due to the ignition source, these require a FFL transfer. I haven't looked into restrictions other states might have in the use of them.

The Gen 1 Savage Smokeless required a FFL transfer.
The Gen 2 didn't.
I have the Gen 1, and did have to fill out the paperwork. I called BS on the gun store owner, but went along. Going home I looked it up, and he was right.
Never looked at a Gen 1 vs Gen 2 to see the difference. I'd like to know.
Later on, I looked it up in the Federal regs that spell out what a convicted felon still has rights to use in response to a post on OSA. Bow is fine, and federal law says a Mz is Ok, but Oklahoma law says felons cannot use Muzzle Loaders even though the feds have no problem.

As I understand it, it is because of the cut down and primed 308 case used as the ignition source.
did you have yours done local or did you ship the barrel off to the guy on greybeard siteYea I got one of those and it shoots like a dream! Think I got a total of $500 tied up in that gun.
