Bobbies for many, many years carried only nightsticks in Merry Olde England. England also once had a reputation for having law abiding SUBJECTS, SUBJECTS who may or may not have been influenced by laws in the Middle Ages that promised death for any felony offense. But, on the whole, the comparison is not at all valid. American crimes rates vastly exceed those of England during the same period.

fixed it for ya.

In March of 2015 police in the US killed more than 100 people. In the UK police have killed less 100 people in total since 1900.

There are many factors that can explain a discrepancy in the numbers between the US and the UK, but that wide of a discrepancy is hard to justify.

Sample size mean anything to you?

So are you arguing for the disarmament of the police force now? You do realize that English policemen are, for the large part, unarmed. It's tougher to kill a person when you have extremely limited means to do so.

As for your source for your first statement, I find it highly suspect due to its partisan leanings.

Have you met any English? They are extremely timid when compared to Americans. We are the rebel hot heads that England shipped over here. It runs in the blood.

I think we should acknowledge the obvious correlation between number of people killed by police and chicken pox (Varicella) vaccination rate.

The UK doesn't do that one because the science is settled regarding risk vs. benefit.

Dude, you've never attended a match between Manchester and Liverpool. Cussing, drinking, fighting and brutal beat-downs. And that was just the little old ladies.

Just go in the prone position, don't voice your opinion/concern, and submit and you won't get shot. We are modern Americans and we know how to submit.

If people did not do stupid things, they might not get shot by the police.

that would be true most of the time .. there's data that supports most lawsuits/settlements involve a tiny percentage of cops. for those folks that have the bad luck to run into those select officers .. it could be bad news indeed ...

EXCLUSIVE: Detective is NYPD's most-sued cop, with 28 lawsuits filed against him since 2006 (SEE INTERACTIVE GRAPHIC)
The number of claims against the department doubled over the past decade to a record high of 9,570 filed in 2012. A Daily News review of lawsuits reveals that 55 officers in the 34,000-person department have been sued 10 or more times during that time period. They're the NYPD's most-sued cops, and Peter Valentin’s their king.

Valentin, a hard-charging Bronx narcotics detective whose online handle is “PistolPete,” has been sued a stunning 28 times since 2006 on allegations of running slash-and-burn raids that left dozens of lives in ruins while resulting in few criminal convictions.

The city has paid out $884,000 to settle cases naming the stocky, 36-year-old detective, but he doesn’t seem too concerned.

“I’m not aware of that,” he scoffed at a Daily News reporter when told of his claim to shame. “Once it goes to court, I don’t follow it.”

The Bloomberg administration routinely dismissed the relevance of civil suits against the NYPD, even as the number of claims against the department doubled over the past decade to a record high of 9,570 filed in 2012. The suits cost taxpayers more than $1 billion dollars during that time period.

They “had a ‘see no evil, hear no evil’ attitude,” said former city Controller John Liu, whose repeated calls for analyzing lawsuits were ignored.

A months-long News review of lawsuits against the NYPD over the past decade shows that 55 officers on the 34,000-person department have been sued 10 or more times during that time period, costing taxpayers more than $6 million.
