Shumard Oaks are in the red oak family. Do a bit of research on red oaks vs white oaks for deer. The reds are bitter compared to white oaks. If you are going to the trouble to plant, I would go with something in the Swamp White Oak fam. Fast growing oak too that can tolerate soil that doesn't drain as well.
