he funny thing is. The owner of this wind farm owns a couple of more that supply power for Oklahoma. who do you think is really going to pay this money. Plus its a 150 KMW loss of power for the state. I’m not saying what they did was wrong. just think about the end result, MONEY and WHO is going to pay in the long run.
If they can't get the tribe to agree to a reasonable vig, and they have to start tearing them down, I'm betting they go Chapter 7 and toss them the keys. I don't know how much power you'd have to be generating to absorb a $300M hit, but I can't imagine doing it with wind farms.

Of course, the question then becomes who would buy that particular pig in a poke. I'd imagine there's a lot of value in the other locations, but who would buy the Osage County operations, other than the tribe itself.

Wind farms cannot be built until someone purchases the potential power. OSU and OU's windfarms are West of Blackwell and some West of the Halliburton Ranch in Western Ok.
We have been under contract for several years to have potential wind towers on some of our farms with a retainer paid every year. This year, they cannot find anyone to purchase the "green power" and have abandoned plans to build the wind farm.
I'm Ok with that.

I'm glad. "We" are eventually gonna realize those things do more damage to the environment than any oil derrick does. With the technology we have to clean up spills now I'd venture a very uneducated guess that the damage to from those farms is a LOT more.
And with an oil and gas lease the landowner gets paid as long as it's producing, that's for however many years that turns out to be. It's been awhile since I've read a wind lease, but the ones I did take the time to read had no provisions for any kind of royalty, so it's a one and done payment up front to the landowner, or it used to be.

Also, O&G leases generally have provisions that the land has to be put back the way it was when the well is plugged. I guarantee you there are many landowners that are going to be very sorry they sold their wind lease. You know how heavy those bases are? :bigeye: I would hope that landowners are more savvy about leasing today, but I know there are ton out there that are in for a really rude awakening down the road. Or their heirs are...

There are two new ones on my deer lease. They are going to flip the switch on in a month or so. Curious as to the sound and how long it will take the deer to get back to normal.
I do have a question though. @ClintC, there have been people in the towers after they were constructed months ago. I talked to one of the guys but he got a phone call and I didn’t get a chance to ask many questions. What are 2-3 guys doing in there for 6 months before it’s turned on?
