The bill to allow armed teachers in schools, which was opposed by many school officials sheep because of safety and liability concerns, was well-supported in the House. It easily cleared the Public Safety Committee and breezed through the full House on a 68-23 vote.

Ford, R-Bartlesville, said he deferred instead to the recommendations of a special 22-member school safety task force....

My approach on school safety and security was to look at what this task force recommended, and it made no recommendations on firearms in schools,” Ford told The Associated Press. “Therefore, I think we really need to focus on what the experts said to make our schools safe.”

He took it upon himself to overrule the entire House.

Here's his info. Start lighting his phone line up.

This is a pure chickensh*t response.

While I generally believe politicians should rely on experts in a particular field to provide them advice and counsel, I am confident the "experts" selected are not really experts in the field but rather administrators of various academic and law enforcement institutions, neither of which makes someone an "expert" in providing a protective response.

It appears that the public education power structure wanted this stopped and succeeded. Am I right or is there another explanation?

Who picked the members of the expert panel that influenced Sen Ford to kill the bill?

When I saw who was on the panel, I knew it was a dog & pony show. Do you really think Chief Ruddick was going to go against the wishes of Dr. Ballard? Certainly not in a public forum! The people I talked to who had an in on the task force, had no interest in the proposal.

You uneducated citizens need to run along now. Your betters will let you know what's best for your children! :nolike:

And just exactly are those steps that will keep our kids safe Mr.Ford? You do not know. Criminals look for soft areas to strike. A gun-free school has no resistance. Get that through your stupid heads. This argument is not about the kids but gungrabbing. These people make me sick

Also, Lt Gov. Lamb (former USSS) was to chair the Commission, which in my mind would make him the MOST qualified on the entire panel to speak to protective detail issues.

Yep. A 22 member panel that's long on eggheads and administrators, but VERY short on security professionals. I think they arrived at the conclusion the panel was engineered to produce.

Self-congratulatory round of back-patting anyone? :(

Nothing against architects and/or pastors, but.....wtf? Were they former LEO or military security, or...or...something?

That's what I thought.

I could agree that having an education administrator or two as a resource for current practices in schools; but they would be more of a resource for the board, not decision makers themselves.

gaaaah... academia...
