In the 1.5 billion skunks I've accidentally trapped over the years, I've never been sprayed. An interesting observation over those years though. If they are fired up and active when you walk up to the trap, nine times out of ten they're going spray when you shoot them. If they're docile, most of the time they don't spray. Head shot theory is accurate for the most part.
