He hasn't had any copies of the information since he left Hong Kong. To me, the were actually ver tricky in the way they did it. The first information released was about the US spying on the Chinese citizens so that political pressure from within would prevent them from turning him over. If he released that stuff while in the US he would have been disappeared or locked up and the key thrown away.
I would say both. Much like in 1774-6 range!

I think i would be more inclined to see him as a hero if he had actually done something about the transgressions of the NSA. Just telling the world about it and running away isnt enough to rate hero status in my book.
