Putting a shelf life on ammo primers?

I know this rumor goes back at least to '94 when we were faced with that administration's crime bill. Certainly was no rumor that there were those that wanted to mandate life limited primers. Meaning: after "x" number of years the primer compound would be inert. Back then the manufacturers responded with even if it were required it is impossible for them to produce a priming compound that was life limited.

Is this what you were asking?

As everyone else has stated, primers can last decades if kept dry and clean. With that said, I wouldn't press my bench rest loads from 20 year old primers, but for plinking or in a SHTF situation, they'll do just fine.
