That's what I've been telling people. This is a man who was already a vicious person who simply embraced the only version of Islam that he had ever been exposed to, the wrong kind, because it aligned with everything he already wanted to do. He didn't convert and then become a sh!tty violent person. He was that already, and then he converted. In fact the only reason anyone's talking about his religion at all is because he was Muslim. If he had been Jewish or Hindi or Christian would anyone have mentioned it?

That is all well and good but it would be naive to completely throw out the Islamic element to this crime. Sure, he was set off by losing his job and had a criminal history but he carried out the violence in a manner consistent with radical islamisists. Any connections the guy had to radical Islam need to be explored. If he picked this up from a local mosque or cleric, we need to expose those radicals here in the states. This is where the local Muslim community needs to take the lead and flush out the radicals among their ranks.
